Time, Dedication, and Preparation

Today my group and I sat down to plan our Direct Lesson Plan for next week. Our topic is Colonies. I am extremely nervous to teach the second grade. Our lesson plan consists of numerous vocabulary words we hope the students will learn and be able to independently define such as: colony, colonist, explorer, thanksgiving, Plymouth, Jamestown, John Smith, and Christopher Columbus. We created a power point using Prezi to present to the students next week! Creating our lesson plan took a great deal of research, time, preparation, and dedication to touch on all that we want our students to learn. We are not yet finished but we are getting there! This week we are planning on meeting with Doctor Smirnova on Google Doc's Hangout. This will allow us to virtually meet and share our lesson plan with her! I am excited to use Hangout and show Doctor Smirnova all that we have done so far!

Here is the link to our powerpoint presentation. I used Prezi to create our powerpoint to make it exciting and to truly capture the students attention! I hope it works. Direct Lesson Powerpoint

  1. Hello! I really like looking at your blog site. I wish I was technology savy enough to add pictures of myself teaching and a Voki introducing myself.

By reading this entry, I can totally relate. I felt so nervous about teaching for the first time as well, but don't you feel relieved once you have got your first lesson out of the way? Because now you can tell yourself that "I made it this far. I knew I could do it." Even though you did have a lot of vocabulary words, like you mentioned in your blog post, you and your group members introduced and went over them in a way that was not overwhelming and would help students remember! Many of the terms you can connect together, and by utilizing the Prezi, you integrated all of the topics together very efficiently!

Isn't Google Docs the greatest? We put all of our information on our lesson on there to share with Dr. Smirnova and members of our group. It was great how much she helped us, and I am sure with your group too, with providing feedback on how to improve the lesson and giving warm words of advice. All of your hard work paid off and it was evident while teaching! :]

By the way, your Prezi works. :]
