Today we became history detectives

Today we learned about the five powerful elements of Social Studies. We also learned what it means to be a historian and why it is important to have experience of being a historian. We became history detectives and discovered what was in our own assigned artifact bags :)

·       Meaningful – engaging, connects students with real-world situations
·       Integrative – draws on more than one discipline, subject, or skill set
·      Value Based- straighten students sense of democratic values and social responsibility
·      Challenging- incorporates different perspectives and draws on students critical thinking skills

·    Active: participatory makes use of manipulative or physical environment.

What does it mean to be a historian? Historians dig into the past to explore, research, and learn new things!

Why is it important to have experience of being a historian? It is important to capture students attention and gibe them a great engaging experience. It is extremely important to have students become actively engaged.

Today we became history detectives! We had to figure out who the person is based off of our given artifacts. These were some of the artifacts found in my bag!
We used the Russia alphabet to decode any writing to help us! It was a lot of fun and it truly was engaging. We used google translator to help us translate the words into English. I can not wait until next class to create my own artifact bag and have my classmates try and discover what mine is all about!
